Quaternary Dreaming (John Dotson’s dream of December 6, 2014)
Suddenly, she turns to me and asks for “chutney.” I immediately respond, resolving to trek to the kitchen, when, standing up, I crash into something with such force that I feel I may very soon faint and fall flat on the floor. However, I am able to absorb the crash and do not faint. I then realize that I have not crashed into a physical object—but rather into an invisible, non-physical object. I compose myself and head on into the kitchen where I encounter C, very vividly present, of whom I enquire after the chutney, successfully.
The scene changes and I am in a grand traverse of the North American continent on my way to, and nearing, the city of St Louis. Yet the city is in a large Western basin among mountains, more like Salt Lake City. I am making my approach in wide sweeping trajectories, vortices of descent—hiking, at times on a bicycle, at times in a car. I am aware of various layers of reality—psycho-topographical mappings made manifest. Am aware that I have some kind of work to do apprehending these layerings, that it is very important that I attend to my task with regard to this great city. Indeed I have something of a magic wand, a vajra-dorje, which I am able to apply to my own projective comprehensions effecting a variety of compelling creative engagements. Much psychophysical exertion is involved with massive transfers of energy.
Subsequently, I am maneuvering in various library-research-production spaces at the university and at the circle at the center. There is something of a feeling of the labors of Hercules as I go through various framings and applications and tricky costume changes.
Through my sleep, I have some deep awareness that there is a FOURNESS—a deeply etched quaternion—in this dream work that is vital to remember and to write down.
