Community (John Dotson’s dream of December 2, 2012)

I’m involved with a production and we have wrapped it up. There is a gathering to celebrate.

It is clear that there are tensions in the group, but not clear what they are about — except that they concern the group’s process in a deep way. The whole process has been deeply engaging and lives have been changed in unforeseen ways…

A woman involved has asked that a large stuffed toy elephant be removed
from a back room, a bedroom…
A man has asked me to remove a large model airplane that has been suspended from the ceiling…
I have no sense of why, but something about these symbols now feels inappropriate to the seriousness of the moment…

There is general, light conversation as the whole group gathers. Taking in all the energies, the intensities, I wonder: Doesn’t everybody see what has happened? Then, as I look at the group completely assembled, I think, This is it… This is exactly what it is all about… This is everything I’ve hoped for and wanted so deeply…

And I feel a joy that overtakes me and results in natural, genuine,
fully embodied laughter—I feel myself laughing with whole-hearted happiness and I know that soon we will be laughing together.
